What is BRCA?

..

Everyone carries the BRCA gene: BRCA1 and BRCA2. These genes are mainly responsible for repairing damaged DNA and maintaining stable cell growth.

If a person carries a mutation of the BRCA gene, the risks of developing breast, ovarian, pancreatic and prostate cancer increases.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Next Generation Sequencing

Sanomics uses NGS to determine whether the patient carries the mutated BRCA gene.

NGS is a high-throughput sequencing technique that is able to provide information regarding the transcriptome of the cell. It has the ability to quantify gene expression, specifically in this test , the BRCA gene. It can also detect novel transcripts and unknown genetic mutations

Advantages of BRCAZoom

Suitable for...

People diagnosed with certain cancers ie. breast, ovarian, prostate cancer

People with a family history of known BRCA gene mutation or breast, ovarian, prostate and pancreatic cancer.

Turnaround Time

20

days

Suitable for...

Suspected or confirmed

lung cancer patients
